Let's dance

Adam in the Making History galleries

07 June 2012

Students from Exeter College have been getting inspiration from RAMM’s collections and last week they treated visitors to a wonderful display of dance and textiles in the galleries.

Elliot designed a long cloth that could be wrapped around the dancers: “I was inspired by the bright colours and the use of line in the African textiles”. Shannon was inspired by the intricate patterns, colours and techniques of the adire agosofin “I researched the history of indigo dying and many resist and dying techniques and then created my own tie-dye and block print piece.”

One dance was performed in the Making History gallery, three more and a textile display were in the central courtyard. The dances were called: Butterflies & Insects, African Dance, Indian Dance and Geometric Dance.

Further performances are planned.

Jointly produced by Exeter College Dance and Art & Design departments, the dancers were: Adam Lau, Jenni Cocker, Beth Fallon, Jess Latham, Zoe Dudgeon, Rachel Evans, Sarah Lazarus, Anna King, Joely Stevens.
