Entry No 2: Devon Art Society in their own words
The aims of Devon Art Society are: ‘To foster the creative visual art interests and to assist in the conceptual and technical development of its members.’
To achieve these aims we have an imaginative yearly programme of weekly studio sessions, monthly demonstrations and workshops along with summer ‘en plein air’ painting. All is designed to inspire, encourage, and develop confidence in our members to respond to new challenges. We try to develop learning through discussion and the introduction of new painting and seeing techniques, enabling our artists to add a spark of individuality to their paintings and display their own emotional and personal interpretation.
Artists make pictures because they wish to satisfy a compulsive creative need and maintain social contact with like-minded people.
We have a cultural tradition to uphold Devon Art Society’s 103 years of history. Early members included Laura Knight and Russell Flint. We are proud to be part of a truly respected and prominent society of artists.
For many members, it is also an essential part of our lives, a lifeline and a community; it’s not just about painting! We aim to keep our Society strong, colourful, vibrant and fun!
Seven local art groups are competing:
• Art Haven
• Devon Art Society
• Exeter Art Society
• Farringdon Society of Arts
• Green to Grey
