Entry No 4: Farringdon Society of Arts in their own words
In 2014 the FSA artists celebrated the society’s 10th anniversary by producing a retrospective exhibition entitled the ‘Bank of Cultural Memories’. All dive of our contributing members are local artists who get together each year to collaborate, taking part in the Devon Opens Studios exhibition. I feel that these artists should be able to show their talents in Exeter’s prime exhibition venue. Despite their stylistic diversity there is a real sense of community spirit and a shared understanding of place with their individual connections to Exeter. Dave Robinson, a former lecturer at Exeter College, has written books on individual philosophers for college students and lives in Farringdon. Ali Giles works for SENSE in Exeter and was born and brought up in Topsham and learned to ride in Farringdon. Imogen Hallam was brought up in Farringdon and lectures ay Exeter College. Peter Freeman lives in Farringdon and is secretary of the Exeter Camera Club. Michael Buckland lives in Exmouth, however, through his work as a lottery-funded artist in residence in Farringdon, has become well known to many other artists in Exeter. These artists have formed the heart of the FSA for 10 years during which time they have embraced many other artists, particularly young, emerging artists.
Seven local art groups are competing:
• Art Haven
