Jamie Palmer – Museum Assistant
As part of the visitor services team I assist with the day to day running and upkeep of the museum.
There are far too many duties to list, but in a nutshell we are the first port of call for those visiting RAMM and the face of the museum to the general public.
We work to ensure everyone has a great experience when they step through our doors and enter our world.
How I ended up at RAMM
Having moved from Cornwall to Exeter in 2008 I had been continually looking for an opportunity to work in an area that would tell me more about and get me more involved in the city I now call home, plus expand my little grey cells on a regular basis.
Upon seeing the post at RAMM advertised I knew instantly that was the kind of place I wanted to be.
One passionate cover letter and one interview later, here I am!
Best part of my job
For me the best parts are learning something new almost every day.
Not just about history but also the way we preserve it and the ways in which we share it.
Plus of course, my colleagues are pretty great to work with too.
What I like most about RAMM
The place is just full of surprises. My first week, I’m looking for a tea towel so I open a cupboard next to a sink, no towel but a lovely full set of armour.
Stuff like that happens a lot, it’s great.
