Exmouth Art Group wins Local Art Show
9 May 2019
Winner of the Local Art Show 2019, Exmouth Art Group will display their work in an exhibition at RAMM from 11 to 30 June.
Secretary, Catherine Ager, expressed the group’s joy: “There was a collective shout of delight from members of Exmouth Art Group (and several Yipee’s, WOW’s and WoHoo’s) when it was announced they were the winners of the 2019 Local Art Show Competition. We are extremely proud to have been given this amazing opportunity to exhibit in such a prestigious gallery and are looking forward to showcasing our diverse responses to the ‘Migration’ theme. Our wholehearted thanks go to RAMM, Devon Live, the Express and Echo and of course the public for supporting this wonderful initiative.”
The exhibition theme is Migration; the museum’s over-arching theme for the year.
Exmouth Art Group in their own words
From inception in 1946 when seven artists formed what was to become Exmouth Art Group, we continue to provide a forum for practicing artists, and those sharing a cultural interest, and to encourage an appreciation of the visual arts. With no restrictions on joining we have a dynamic membership of over 200 with a broad range of age, experience, ability and locality. The positive effect of a creative environment is undoubtedly beneficial to all, the professional practitioner, enthusiastic amateur and observer, and embedded in our aims is an ambition to embrace the widest demographic including a younger generation. We are very much a community group with established links with Exmouth Community College, local primary schools, the Kite Festival, Exmouth in Bloom and Exmouth Festival and have raised funds for numerous organisations through our charity raffles of members’ paintings. A new initiative ‘Back to Art’ will offer sessions to help those lacking confidence explore their own creative skills. And finally, our members have responded so creatively to the Migration theme we think their work deserves to be seen by a wider public. To celebrate their diverse and wonderful talents in such a prestigious gallery is an opportunity too good to miss.
Earlier Local Art Show winners are: Double Elephant Print Workshop (2017), Flying Colours (2016), Topsham Art Group (2015), Sense (2014), Hive Art Group (2013) and Fairstream Arts (2012).
