Get started – Arts Awards
24 May 2017
RAMM is embracing Arts Awards to support and encourage young people to grow as artists and arts leaders. This May half term, there is a free offer on the introductory Discover Award, a certificate aimed at primary school aged children.
Discover is the first of five Arts Award levels. Together the levels are designed to inspire young people aged up to 25 to connect with and take part in the wider arts world. Arts Awards is a national programme offering challenges in all art forms – from fashion to digital art, pottery to poetry.
Discover Arts Award at RAMM
Arts Award Discover is a creative and fun way to find out about RAMM and the extraordinary range of objects on display. Families pick up their RAMM Discover Arts Award logbook in the courtyard and follow Alfie the Sparrow around the museum. They then complete a range of activities and challenges at their own pace. They can be completed in one afternoon or over several visits. Challenges include sketching, writing a poem or rhyme, finding out about artist Steffen Dam and sharing findings with museum staff.
The free Arts Award log books will be in RAMM’s courtyard on Wednesday 31 May, Thursday 1 June and Friday 2 June, from 10.30am to 12.30am and 1.30 to 3.30pm.
Arts Award Certificate
Once the log book is complete, RAMM staff will check it before applying to Trinity College London for a Discover Arts Award Certificate. The certificate will take 6 to 8 weeks to arrive and will be posted to a home address. Families will receive an Arts Award badge on the day and take their logbook home.
Families can also take part in the next Arts Award level, Arts Award Explore, by signing up to RAMM’s Theatre Week from Tue 1 to Sat 5 August with Paddleboat Theatre Company. Children aged 6 to 11 will have the opportunity to learn new skills including puppetry, object play, movement and mime whilst achieving their Arts Award at the same time. Friends and family will be invited to a final performance at the end of the week.
Arts Award Explore
The one-week Paddleboat Theatre Week at RAMM runs from Tuesday 1 to Saturday 5 August. Participating children aged 6 to 11 will complete Arts Award Explore. Explore is an Entry Level 3 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). It is the perfect stepping stone from our introductory Discover Arts Award to the Level 1 qualification, Bronze Arts Award.

Exeter Phoenix, Exeter Library and Exeter Northcott Theatre also organise Arts Awards activities.
About Arts Award
Arts Award is a framework for children and young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. Children and young people develop creative and critical skills, set themselves challenges and explore the arts, share their achievements and can gain a recognised qualification. Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four accredited qualifications and an introductory award.
Arts Award is managed by Trinity College London in association with Arts Council England. Since its launch in 2015, Arts Award has grown quickly and now flourishes in arts centres, community projects, libraries, museums, schools, theatres, youth clubs and more.
