Joy Gregory: Black History Month

Artist Joy Gregory has spoken to RAMM about her commission for next year’s exhibition ‘In Plain Sight: Transatlantic Slavery and Devon’.

A graduate of Manchester Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art, Joy is concerned with social and political issues. She makes particular reference to history, and cultural differences in contemporary society. As a photographer she uses techniques ranging from video, digital and analogue photography to Victorian print processes to produce her work.

In this video Joy discusses Devon’s local links to the slave trade, her research into the RAMM collections, and her creative practice.

In Plain Sight: Transatlantic Slavery and Devon will open at RAMM in October 2021.
