Local Art Show 2014
7 August 2014
An exhibition showcasing the work of a local art group chosen by the readers of Exeter Express and Echo newspaper.
The Sense group of artists won the Local Art Show competition run by the Express & Echo with RAMM.
Rosie Denham, Exeter’s Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture said:
“Exeter City Council is delighted to be working with the Express & Echo to help recognise, reward and foster creativity in the city. The competition provides an opportunity for visitors to RAMM to see work by local artists, and for this year’s winners – members of Sense’s group of deafblind artists – to exhibit their work in this fantastic space.”
The artists in the collective combine traditional artistic methods with new mediums to develop their work and challenge the ways in which people view multi-sensory art.
Sense’s Jane Tucker said:
“Multi-sensory art is a unique and exciting genre of visual and tactile art. Accessing arts and cultural experiences can be a real challenge for many deafblind people. Deafblind artists work in incredible ways – constantly challenging forms for making art and presenting it to audiences. It is through demonstrating achievement that we can collectively increase opportunities for deafblind people to be included, access and participate in the arts and cultural life of Exeter.”
The Exeter-based deafblind artists taking part in the exhibition plan to offer audiences a unique insight into deafblind experiences of art.
