RAMM Romeo proposes
10 May 2016
Romeo Simon Connett surprised his girlfriend Katie Jones with a romantic marriage proposal among the historical artefacts in the Making History gallery.
RAMM already had special significance for the pair as it’s where they came on their first date. Exactly two years to the day, they returned for the proposal. Simon, a blacksmith, handmade a copper rose which was placed into a museum case by RAMM staff with specially created label which read ‘Will you marry me?’
“I’ve been coming here since I was five or six years old and I’ve always loved it” explained Simon. “When me and Katie went on our first date we came here. It was a wildlife photography exhibition and she knew a lot about the subject, and I thought ‘wow, not only is she beautiful she’s really intelligent as well’. So that’s where it all started: Here.”
But it wasn’t as simple as simply opening the door and popping the rose in. Before anything can be placed into one of the museum’s cases, packed with priceless items, it has to be thoroughly check to ensure it was completely germ free and uncontaminated. Museum spokesperson Gillian Taylor said: “It was such a romantic story, he made the flower himself and asked to put it in one of our cases. We would absolutely love it if it inspired more couples to do the same.”
