Wayward Art Group statement
Wayward was established in 2006 by a group of recent fine art graduates from the University of Plymouth determined to continue to practice their art. Wayward holds regular meetings, at St Sidwell’s in Exeter, with the aims of providing a discussion forum for contemporary art and nurturing members’ artistic work. Visiting speakers, presentations by members, visits to exhibitions, and collaborative projects have encouraged a stable membership.
All members of the group are excited by the opportunity to exhibit at RAMM. Many have been inspired by Dartmoor over the years and know the area well – so the theme fits with their interests and previous work. A group visit to Wistman’s Wood in June was arranged to generate new work.
Wayward artists are united by their passion for what they do; each follows their own direction according to their personal vision for their artistic practice. The new work now ready for the RAMM exhibition, and in preparation, includes a range of traditional and mixed media, photography and installation. Members have responded to Dartmoor weather, environment, archaeology, history and contemporary life on the moor to create a wide ranging show which will be a contemporary interpretation of ‘A Wild and Wondrous Region’.
