Carolyn Lefley’s video Ancient Sea explores the geology of Ham Hill in Somerset.
Over 174 million years ago, when the area was under the sea the local limestone called Hamstone was formed. Fossil remains of ammonites still surround Ham Hill.
The video combines footage filmed by Lefley in the water with animated fossils and drone imagery of Ham Hill. Lefley says the video ‘re-imagines the shallow sea over the land.’
Carolyn Lefley is an artist, writer and educator. She makes work in photography and moving image which reflects on folklore, deep time, the natural world, and the theme of belonging.
This display is part of RAMM’s Contemporary Art Programme funded by Arts Council England.
