Goddess with a thousand faces: an evening with Jasmine Elmer

Delve into the world of goddesses with acclaimed author Jasmine Elmer as she explores some of the female deities in RAMM’s collection and discusses their ancient relevance to our modern lives.

Growing up in a mixed race family on a council estate in the East End of London, Jasmine knows personally how far removed the ancient world can feel from our hectic modern one. Only gaining access to the study of the ancient world at University, she has directed much of her passion into widening participation in the subject for all.

As a creative, Jasmine has focused her energies on building her media career by developing new and creative ways to represent the ancient world in the public sphere.  She does not label herself a traditional “Classicist”, but instead an advocate for the wider study of ancient culture.

At this event at RAMM Jasmine is looking forward to introducing the subject of her new book, Goddess with a Thousand Faces, and expanding on the themes shared; that we all have a goddess inside us, that history has a relevance to the journey we find ourselves on today, that there is more to us than what we see in the world.

Special offer

Jasmine’s new book Goddess with a Thousand Faces can be purchased with your ticket for just £18 (normally £22). It will be available to collect at the event where there will be an opportunity for Jasmine to sign copies.

Goddess with a Thousand Faces is a one-of-a-kind exploration of goddesses from our ancient past. Blending mythological retellings with historical research, Elmer traverses the world and transports through time to bring ten formidable and inspiring goddesses to life. Meet Artemis, the Greek goddess of the wilderness, never without her bow and arrow; Sedna, Inuit goddess of the ocean, guarding the icy waters and all its creatures; Isis, Egyptian goddess of healing, who dwells by the River Nile, just to name a few… Written out of history for too long, Goddess with a Thousand Faces restores these women to their glory.
