Mask making

Be inspired by our fabulous collection of masks in RAMM’s World Cultures gallery, then get creative with beads, feathers, sequins and bright colours!

Masks have been used used in cultures around the world for thousands of years, and each is a unique piece that captures the essence of its culture and traditions. From the intricate designs of masks found across the African continent, often representing spirits and ancestors, to the colourful characters depicted in Japanese Noh masks and used in theatres, to those used by First Nations peoples in rituals and dance, or the elaborate Day of the Dead masks from Mexico honouring and remembering their loved ones, masks have any uses and many guises.

What sort of mask will you create?
