Studio ceramics is loosely understood to mean pottery that has been made by a single potter who has had an overview of all the processes involved, from clay selection to throwing, modelling, decoration, firing and mixing glazes. Such small-scale, personally supervised production deliberately rejects mass-production and commercialism and has roots in the arts and crafts movement.
There is a rich tradition of this philosophy in the south west, and this display aims to shine a light on some of the key studio potters represented in the collections at RAMM.
