Alfie’s Night Out Exhibition and Book
As part of RAMM’s 150th anniversary celebrations, illustrator Victoria Byron and writer Conor Magee have created a new children’s book especially for RAMM. Alfie is a sparrow who sits amongst the other birds in the gallery. One night, when the visitors have all left, something magical happens; the museum comes alive and Alfie goes exploring.
Alfie’s Night Out is available from the Shop at RAMM, and the original illustrations were on display alongside some of Victoria’s sketch books in the exhibition Alfie’s Night Out from 20 April to 2 September in Gallery 22. Young visitors created their own stories with a puppet theatre and explored books that their parents and grandparents might have read when they were young.
Visitors were also able to follow Alfie around the museum and find out more about the museum objects featured in the book with the Alfie’s Night Out trail.
Alfie’s Explorers’ Party
To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, visitors joined Victoria Byron, the book’s creator, for Alfie’s Explorers’ Party held on Sun 29 April. They found out how Victoria created her beautiful images and heard passages from the book read by Conor Magee, who wrote the words.
