Rhia & the Tree of Lights festive trail

Discover a festive family trail at RAMM from Tuesday 14 December inspired by Quirk Theatre’s show Rhia & the Tree of Lights

South West based Quirk Theatre bring their lively and inventive theatrical family show, Rhia & the Tree of Lights, to Exeter Phoenix from 19th- 28th December. On completion of the digital museum trail, visitors can receive a discount off their ticket to see the show. Download the trail here.

Set on the magnificent Jurassic Coast, Rhia & the Tree of Lights follows the story of a young British Indian girl preparing for her first Diwali without her Grandma. The show features vibrant original music, ancient Indian tales, fossils, dinosaurs, jaw-dropping local wildlife and Quirk’s trademark sense of the ridiculous.

RAMM cares for a number of objects that link to Rhia’s story and her adventures around the Jurassic Coast. Visitors will be able to discover these objects, ranging from ancient fossils to celebratory items from Hindu culture, in a fun digital trail which brings Rhia’s wonderful story to life.

Included in the trail are Rhynchosaur fossils, displayed in the museum’s Down to Earth gallery. These lizard-like animals lived a long time ago in a period known as the Triassic. Rhia and her friend encounter a Rhynchosaur in the show and playfully call it Binky the Rinky.

Also in the trail is a garland worn by Ganesh, the elephant deity. In the show the characters use colourful garlands to dress their treehouse ready to celebrate Diwali.

Director, Katie Villa, says:

‘We are thrilled to be collaborating with Exeter’s museum, giving our wonderful audiences the opportunity to explore objects featured in Rhia & the Tree of Lights, alongside the fantastic ticket offer. Every object tells a story and as Uncle Bill says in the show, “you should never underestimate an old thing!”’

The Rhia & the Tree of Lights digital trail will be available through Time Trail, the museum’s platform for digital trails, and will run from Tuesday 14 December 2021 – Sunday 2 January 2022.

Visitors will receive a sticker from the Shop at RAMM on completion of the trail. Stickers must be shown at Exeter Phoenix Box Office to receive a 20% discount off booking to Rhia & the Tree of Lights.*

Produced with funding from Arts Council England & with support from Jurassic Coast Trust.
