Holocaust Memorial Day 2022

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on Thursday 27 January. It is the day for everyone to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2022 is ‘One Day’; you can interpret this in different ways. There are suggestions for how you can mark One Day on the HMD Trust’s website. For example you could pick one day in history and learn about that day. Or you could use the theme as a discussion point; if we look ahead to ‘one day with no genocide’, what do we need to do today to achieve this?

This year RAMM will be marking Holocaust Memorial Day online, across our social media channels. RAMM staff will light a candle and share the image on social media to ‘Light the Darkness’. We will also be sharing resources and stories to help you learn more about Holocaust Memorial Day.

Events

Other events are taking place nearby. Exeter Guildhall will be lit up purple, joining other buildings across the country in commemorating the day.  There will also be a Commemoration Ceremony at Exeter Cathedral. The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Trish Oliver, will attend to light a candle, along with other dignitaries and representatives, plus local school children.

If you would like to find an in-person event to attend, the HMD Trust have created this handy activity finder: HMD: Find an activity

And anyone can register to watch the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust’s Ceremony here: HMD 2022 Ceremony.
