New addition to the Discover Arts award at RAMM

Are you creative? Do you see yourself working in the arts in your future? Our Discover Arts Award Activity Booklet will help you do just that! A colourful, interactive option to engage with art at the RAMM, this new booklet will guide young people aged 11-25 to achieve their Arts Award.

The Arts Award is a framework for children and young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. By developing creative and critical skills, setting challenging goals, and fostering artistic exploration, young people can gain a recognised qualification.

Local artist, Molly Saunders, has injected the booklet with fun, inspiring illustrations to guide you through the achievement.

“I was tasked with illustrating the booklets to resemble the style of my personal sketchbooks,” says Molly. “I think they came out looking so fun and full of colour! I’m very grateful to have had this chance to work on such an exciting project and hope everyone has as much fun using them as I did illustrating them.”

The new booklet design complements the existing version which is available for younger children aged 5-10 years, who can follow Alfie the sparrow as a guide around the museum at their own pace to complete arty activities and challenges. Children can start their creative journey by purchasing and reading the storybook Alfie’s Night Out from the RAMM Shop, which introduces the character of Alfie the sparrow as he explores the museum at night when it magically comes to life.

Young people can achieve their Discover Arts Award at RAMM either all in one day or over several visits. We recommend a minimum of 2 hours in the museum to run through the basic tasks. You can even take the booklets away with your group to finish off elsewhere if time is short. Come complete the booklet with your family, school, youth group or after school club!

Both booklets can be bought in the Shop at RAMM and cost £5, or £3.50 per child for groups of 12 children or more. This price includes the booklet, an instruction sheet, an Arts Award certificate and – for the younger ones – an Alfie the Sparrow badge. On completing an Arts Award activity booklet, RAMM staff will check it in before applying to Trinity College London for your Discover Arts Award Certificate, which will take 6-8 weeks to arrive and will be posted to a home address.

RAMM is an Arts Award supporter and an Arts Award centre.
