Our second online RAMM Lates will celebrate the beauty that surrounds us and the wonder we see in the everyday. An evening of storytelling, illustration, games, discussion, and photography for you to enjoy, all from the comfort of home.
Throughout the evening an engaging and exciting programme of free events will take place across RAMM’s social media and on Zoom.

7pm
Taking inspiration from RAMM’s Corinthian Helmet Storyteller David Heathfield tells a lesser known Aesopp’s fable about Hermes’ vanity. He is joined by Storytelling Primary School Teacher Laura Ballesio, from Turin, Italy who responds with an amusing account of the choices her pupils made when choosing their favourite Roman gods.

RAMM’s youth panel invites you to take part in an exciting quiz Around the world in 30 questions. With questions both entertaining and informative, test yourself on World Cultures, Food, and Music/Pop Culture. Come see how much you know about all things near and far. Oh, and did we mention there’s an exclusive and exciting prize for the winner!
The quiz will take place on Zoom and you will need to submit your answers using Kahoot. We advise having two screens available to take part, however you will still be able to take part with one screen. Join our Zoom event on the evening (details above) and participants will be given instructions how to take part at the start. You can also have a read of the instructions in advance here.

We will be joined again by storytellers David Heathfield and Laura Ballesio. Enjoy a folk tale from Southern Africa, inspired by Gerald the Giraffe, about a proud and foolish giraffe who is punished for trying to swallow a tortoise, as well as a wonderful African tale about a tortoise who proves to be more resilient than the giraffe and all the other animals.

Join artist Leonie Hampton and RAMM’s Contemporary Art Curator Lara Goodband ‘In conversation’ discussing Hampton’s recent commission A Language of Seeds. Leonie’s work explores RAMM’s collection of seeds and herbarium sheets in dialogue with her own photographs of seed experiments, the garden and family. Creating a ‘story about love, growth, family and the archaic wisdom of plants’, the new artwork places Hampton’s photographs of living and growing plants alongside that of the collected, dried seeds in the museum.

We are excited to offer our RAMM Lates audience the chance to join a ‘Drink Chat Draw’ event with the Devon and Cornwall Illustrators group. Do you enjoy drawing and would you be interested in creating a piece of work alongside experienced illustrators? This event is open to all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced illustrators, everyone is welcome.
For many of us, it’s been a year of repetition. The same rooms, the same people, the same routine. Did you find unexpected beauty in elements of the everyday? Did the process of lockdown change anything about your illustration approach or technique? Did you notice anything that had previously been ignored? Did you have extra time to explore a change of style or discover new inspiration?
Join for an evening of drawing based on these themes. An opportunity to chat and doodle and reflect on how the last year has affected us and how we might try to bring something positive out of it.

Listen to short tales collected as part of The Storied Seed Bank project. Collected by socially engaged community artist, ceramicist, and community gardener Mandy Biscoe these stories highlight and share the collective knowledge we have about plants. Mandy seeks to represent the importance of plants in people’s lives and the connections we have to them in the 21st century.

Shots taken: books, bars and beyond is an exhibition that aims to reveal the typically misunderstood experience of University students. Hear about how this project reflects the mundane but life-shaping experiences of student life that are often left out of shot. From acts of student activism, to intimate moments with new friends, this exhibition shows the experiences of belonging, friendship, loneliness and excitement as perhaps the most valuable aspects of education.
