Ten internationally-renowned writers, spoken word artists and a composer will explore and reinterpret RAMM’s collections as part of the Museum of Colour’s newest project.

The Museum of Colour is a digital museum that explores the contribution made by People of Colour to the nation’s culture, specifically in film, television and the arts. Launching on 14 September, the My Words gallery will be a permanent digital exhibition of portraits of artists of colour, with the aim to make visible those who collectively have made a significant change to our understanding of poetry and spoken word in Britain.

The My Words Response Gallery, curated by Melanie Abrahams with compositions and vocals by Randolph Matthews, features ten new written works by internationally renowned writers and poets. These artists have experienced RAMM’s collections, either through a physical or online visit, and chosen aspects to respond to in their work. Their pieces will be showcased at a private launch event held at the museum on Tuesday 6 September, where attendees will listen to the ten poets’ responses accompanied by Matthews’ live music and vocals.

Performing will be Mona Arshi, Victoria Adukwei Bulley, Fred D’Aguiar, Jennifer Lee Tsai, Adam Lowe, Shivanee Ramlochan, Jacob Sam-La Rose, John Siddique, Yomi Sode and Yusra Warsama.

Later this year RAMM will also be hosting My Words poetry workshops, exploring the written word with some of the featured poets.
