RAMM to take part in Foundation Stones virtual workshop

Join us for a virtual Foundation Stones workshop on Wednesday 20 January, 7pm– 8pm to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2021.

RAMM is taking part in a virtual Foundation Stones workshop, led by the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation. The workshop invites participants to paint and share a stone live on Zoom which will become part of the new UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in London. The event will begin with some speakers sharing talks or poetry to offer inspiration when decorating your stone, including Ruth Gidley, Engagement Officer at RAMM.

Holocaust Memorial Day is on the 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp. It remembers the six million Jewish men, women and children lost to the Holocaust, and all other victims of Nazi persecution. The Foundations Stones created in the workshop from across the country will become part of the new Holocaust Memorial. This idea comes from the Jewish custom of placing a pebble on headstones when visiting a grave. Each stone will represent a promise to remember and learn from the past.

This free workshop offers a great opportunity to mark Holocaust Memorial Day at home with your family, while making a personal contribution to the new UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre.

We are looking forward to joining other communities and museums taking part, including the Victoria Gallery & Museum in Liverpool, Leicester Museum and Art Gallery and Southampton SeaCity Museum. Join us for this meaningful event and come together with people from across the UK to mark Holocaust Memorial Day at this difficult and often isolating time.
